4.3.2 Public Events (Lifelong Learning): Host Educational Events at University That Are Open to The General Public
UNS Bridges Public Knowledge Access and Lifelong Learning Opportunities through Public Events in 2024
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) continues to reinforce its public service function in 2024 by hosting a series of open educational activities (Public Events). These activities, including public lectures, guest lectures, and national seminars, are held on campus but are widely open to the general public (non-students), aligning with the lifelong learning indicator under SDG 4: Quality Education.
Providing free and open access to these educational events demonstrates UNS’s commitment to disseminating academic knowledge and research to the wider community, ensuring quality education reaches beyond institutional boundaries
- Open Lectures and Seminars for the Public
- International Guest Lecture on Migration and ASEAN Humanitarian Issues
The Faculty of Law (FH) UNS has taken an active role in addressing sensitive global issues and public policy matters.
In November 2024, FH UNS scheduled a significant event: the Lecture on Migration in ASEAN with Focus on Rohingya. The event featured international expert Dr. Elizabeth Rhoads, a senior lecturer and researcher from Lund University. The event was organized in a hybrid format, allowing for physical attendance at the International Session Room of FH UNS and online participation via Zoom.
Participation was free of charge, and the event was open to the public. By opening registration to the public, FH UNS leveraged its international expertise to facilitate critical discussions on migration law and the Rohingya issue in ASEAN, a public policy topic of high humanitarian and regional relevance.

The Chemical Engineering Student Association (HMTK) of FT UNS organized the Public Lecture 2024, titled “Sustainable Nanotechnology: Revolutionizing Waste Management Through Green Chemistry,” on March 23, 2024.
The event was free and open to both internal and external participants, with a total of 124 attendees. This public lecture aimed to disseminate insights into the role of nanotechnology in waste management through the application of green chemistry principles, which is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals related to industry and responsible consumption.
