3.3.3 Shared Sports Facilities at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in 2025
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) shares its sports facilities with the local community, including students from local schools, athletes from other universities, and members of the general public. In 2025, UNS supported shared use of its sports facilities through sporting events and competitions that welcomed participants from outside the university, as well as through selected facilities that offer free access during organized events. UNS also provides charged access to certain sports facilities, allowing community members to use university sports infrastructure for recreation, fitness, and healthy living. These arrangements demonstrate UNS’s efforts to make sports facilities accessible beyond its campus community and support broader community participation in sports.
A. Limited Free Access to Some Sports Facilities
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) provides external participants with free access to some of its sports facilities through sports events and competitions involving local communities, schools, and other universities. Throughout 2025, UNS opened its sports venues to athletes and students from various educational institutions and regions to participate in badminton, karate, volleyball, and other sporting events. These activities demonstrate UNS’s commitment to expanding access to sports facilities, promoting healthy lifestyles, and strengthening community collaboration through sports.
1. Sebelas Maret Cup 2025: National Badminton Championship for University Students and Senior High School Students
From September 9–13, 2025, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) hosted the fifth Sebelas Maret Cup at the Sports Hall of UNS Faculty of Sports (GOR FKOR UNS) in Surakarta, Indonesia. The national badminton championship attracted 178 participants from 20 universities and senior high schools across five provinces in Indonesia.
The event gave university and high school students from outside UNS the opportunity to use the university’s sports facilities for competitive activities. Through this championship, UNS supported youth sports development, encouraged healthy competition, and strengthened relationships among educational institutions by sharing its badminton facilities.
2. Sebelas Maret Open II International Karate Championship 2025
From October 31 to November 2, 2025, UNS hosted the Sebelas Maret Open II International Karate Championship at the Sports Hall of UNS Faculty of Sports (GOR FKOR UNS) in Surakarta. The championship attracted 1,981 athletes representing 104 delegations, including 102 from Indonesia and one each from Sudan and Tanzania.
The event allowed athletes from different regions and countries to use UNS sports facilities for an international sporting competition. By opening its sports hall to participants from outside the university, UNS supported wider participation in sports, encouraged athletic achievement, and strengthened connections among sports communities through a shared competition venue.
3. Semar Indonesian University Volleyball League (Livoma) 2025
From October 20–23, 2025, UNS hosted the Semar Indonesian University Volleyball League (Livoma) 2025 at the UNS Sports Hall (GOR UNS) in Surakarta. The national competition featured 30 men’s and women’s teams from 18 universities across six provinces: Central Java, East Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.
The UNS Sports Hall was used by university teams from across Indonesia for a national-level volleyball competition. This event demonstrated how UNS sports facilities supported sporting activities involving students from other universities. It also promoted athletic development, sportsmanship, and cooperation among higher education institutions through a shared sports venue.

4. Bupati Cup Madiun Volleyball Competition 2025
On July 19, 2025, UNS hosted the Bupati Cup Madiun Volleyball Competition at the UNS Caruban Campus in Madiun Regency, East Java. The event celebrated the 457th anniversary of Madiun Regency and was organized through cooperation among UNS, the Madiun Regency Government, and Bank Jatim. Participating teams included representatives from UNS, the local government, and Bank Jatim.
The competition demonstrated the use of UNS Caruban Campus facilities for a sporting event involving external organizations and local stakeholders. By hosting the tournament, UNS provided a venue for joint sporting activities and strengthened its relationship with the local government and community. The event also aimed to encourage public interest in sports and support the development of local athletic talent.
5. 19th National University Sports Week (POMNAS XIX) 2025
From September 19–27, 2025, UNS served as a host venue for several sports at the 19th National University Sports Week (POMNAS XIX). The university provided facilities for sepak takraw at the UNS Sports Hall (GOR UNS) and pétanque at the Pétanque Court of UNS Stadium. The UNS Auditorium also hosted tarung derajat competitions.
These facilities supported national-level competitions involving student athletes from universities across Indonesia. By providing venues for sports competitions beyond its regular campus activities, UNS contributed to the development of university sports and enabled athletes from other institutions to use its sports facilities during a major national sporting event.

A. Charged Access Sports Facilities
UNS also provides several sports facilities open to the general public outside the campus community through a fee-based access system. This demonstrates UNS’s commitment to sharing sports facilities with the local community.
1. FKOR Fitness Center, UNS Manahan
The fitness center managed by the Faculty of Sports Science (FKOR) at UNS Manahan actively shares access with the public through a clearly defined charged access scheme. Membership fees for the general public are set at IDR 300,000 per month for a monthly membership or IDR 20,000 for daily access. The distinct pricing for public users (separate from student or athlete rates) confirms that this fitness center, although university-owned, functions as a shared facility open to the local community with a structured fee.
2. UNS Tower Gym (USFIT Wave & Motion)
The gym located in UNS Tower Hotel & MICE, known as USFIT Wave & Motion, is also a university facility open to the public via charged access. Situated on the second floor, it offers monthly membership programs starting at IDR 350,000 for the general public. With operating hours from 05:00 to 21:00 daily, UNS ensures that community members who wish to maintain a healthy lifestyle and use modern standard fitness equipment can register and access the facility through a paid membership system.
3. UNS Tower Swimming Pool
As an additional sports facility accessible to the public, the UNS Tower Swimming Pool also implements an affordable charged access system. Local residents can enjoy the pool with a daily entry fee of IDR 25,000. The pool operates daily from 15:00 to 21:00. This publicly promoted paid access demonstrates UNS’s commitment to maximizing the use of campus assets and sharing recreational sports facilities with the wider community beyond the academic environment.
Conclusion
Through these initiatives, UNS demonstrates its commitment to sharing sports facilities with the local community, including local schools, other universities, and the general public. Both event-based access to selected facilities and fee-based access to public fitness and swimming facilities give external users opportunities to benefit from university sports infrastructure. By facilitating shared use of its sports facilities, UNS promotes community engagement, encourages active, healthy lifestyles, and strengthens the university’s role as a resource for the wider community.
