PROTECT, RESTORE AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE USE OF TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS, SUSTAINABLY MANAGE FORESTS, COMBAT DESERTIFICATION, AND HALT AND REVERSE LAND DEGRADATION AND HALT BIODIVERSITY LOSS

A flourishing life on land is fundamental to sustaining life on our planet. As integral parts of Earth’s ecosystems, human activities such as deforestation, habitat destruction, and land degradation have caused severe damage to terrestrial biodiversity. Recognizing this critical issue, Sebelas Maret University (UNS) is dedicated to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15  Life on Land through comprehensive education, research, and community engagement.

UNS actively conducts research focused on forest conservation, restoration of degraded lands, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity preservation. Through its Faculty of Forestry, Agriculture, and Environmental Science, UNS develops innovative approaches to protect natural habitats, promote reforestation, and implement sustainable land management practices that balance human needs with ecological health.

In addition, UNS integrates SDG 15 principles into its academic curriculum to educate students on the importance of ecosystem sustainability and biodiversity conservation. By equipping future leaders with this knowledge, UNS ensures a continuous pipeline of professionals committed to protecting life on land.

UNS also extends its impact beyond the campus by engaging with local communities through reforestation projects, habitat restoration initiatives, and environmental awareness campaigns. These programs empower communities to adopt sustainable practices that preserve biodiversity and prevent further land degradation.

Through its combined efforts in research, education, and community outreach, UNS reaffirms its strong commitment to SDG 15. The university understands that promoting the sustainable use of ecosystems and preserving biodiversity is not just a noble cause it is essential for humanity’s survival and well-being.
