5.6.5 Childcare Facilities for Staff and Faculty

Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) demonstrates its support for gender equality and women’s empowerment, including by providing inclusive access to education for staff and faculty with childcare responsibilities. One concrete form of this support is the existence of the Childcare Center Pondok Asi “Dharma Wanita” at UNS.

This facility is managed by Dharma Wanita Persatuan UNS, an institution that actively provides welfare services to the academic community. This facility is designed to provide a safe and child-friendly space for babies and toddlers, particularly for working mothers or students who require childcare while engaging in activities on campus. The childcare service is provided free of charge for UNS staff and faculty, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to supporting employees and students with family responsibilities. In addition, the existence of the Breastfeeding Center enables breastfeeding mothers to have access to comfortable and hygienic storage facilities and lactation space.

Through this facility, UNS strives to create an educational environment that is family-friendly and gender-inclusive, where women can pursue their education without having to choose between continuing their studies and raising children. The “Dharma Wanita” Childcare Pondok Asi Center is also part of the university’s efforts to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality, specifically indicator 5.6.4, by providing facilities that enable women to remain academically active despite their family responsibilities.
