ACHIEVE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS

Gender bias undermines the social fabric and devalues all of humanity. It is not merely a human rights issue but also a tremendous waste of the world’s human potential. By denying women equal rights, we close off opportunities for nearly half of the world’s population to live life fully and meaningfully. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) recognizes that achieving SDG 5: Gender Equality is key to building a just and prosperous society. As an educational institution, UNS is committed to promoting gender equality through various programs and policies that support women’s empowerment and eliminate gender-based discrimination.

UNS implements initiatives to enhance the participation of women in academics, leadership, and research. For example, UNS provides scholarships and career development opportunities specifically for female students and faculty, enabling them to contribute more actively to education and society. Moreover, UNS integrates gender equality and human rights topics into curricula and community service activities to raise awareness and dismantle negative stereotypes that have historically hindered women’s progress.

Through regular seminars, workshops, and training sessions, UNS builds women’s capacity to take on strategic roles both on campus and in the broader community. This commitment aligns with global efforts to eliminate all forms of gender-based discrimination and violence and to create an inclusive and safe environment for all members of the academic community.

By promoting political, economic, and social equality for women, UNS not only strengthens the position of women but also benefits society as a whole. Gender equality paves the way for a more productive, creative, and innovative human resource that contributes to sustainable development and national progress. Therefore, UNS actively works to eradicate prejudice and advocate for equal rights and respect for all, as part of its mission to create a more just and humane world.
