MAKE CITIES AND HUMAN SETTLEMENTS INCLUSIVE, SAFE, RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE
The growing global population demands the development of modern, sustainable cities and settlements that provide safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly living conditions for all inhabitants. Recognizing this urgent need, Sebelas Maret University (UNS) not only contributes through research and community service but also demonstrates a strong commitment to implementing the principles of SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities within its own campus environment.
UNS continuously develops and implements the concept of a green campus by integrating environmentally friendly practices across all aspects of campus management. This includes efficient waste management and recycling, the use of renewable energy, and extensive campus greening initiatives through planting various types of vegetation that support environmental preservation. These efforts aim to create a healthy, comfortable, and inspiring environment for the entire academic community.
Moreover, UNS prioritizes the construction of disaster-resilient and eco-friendly facilities, such as energy-efficient buildings and effective drainage systems to prevent flooding. The UNS campus is designed to serve not only as a recreational green space but also as an environmental education area, involving students in conservation activities and the development of sustainable technologies.
UNS actively engages students and staff in various environmental awareness and sustainability programs, including waste management training, energy-saving campaigns, and green community activities both inside and around the campus. This approach fosters an environmentally conscious culture and nurtures a strong sense of social responsibility within the academic community.
UNS’s commitment to applying SDG 11 principles on campus is further strengthened by integrating sustainability concepts into its curriculum, research, and community service programs. As a result, UNS not only produces academically competent graduates but also prepares agents of change ready to contribute to sustainable urban and community development in the future.
Through these concrete actions, UNS demonstrates a strong dedication to creating a modern, inclusive, and sustainable campus a miniature model of a sustainable city that serves as an example and inspiration to the wider community.
