2.3.5 Staff Hunger Interventions
- Morning Exercise and Healthy Breakfast: UNS Cares for Staff Well-being
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) is strongly committed to ensuring and improving the welfare of all staff members by meeting their basic needs, especially in terms of food security. This commitment is realized through regular staff hunger interventions designed to prevent and alleviate hunger among employees.
Every Friday, UNS organizes a morning exercise program across its faculties and work units as part of its effort to promote a healthy lifestyle within the university community. After the exercise, UNS routinely provides free healthy meals for staff and employees as a form of appreciation and support for their health and well-being. This initiative not only strengthens the university’s culture of care but also contributes to building a supportive and inclusive work environment.
The post-exercise meal serves not just as a relaxing moment but also as a way to foster solidarity and social awareness among staff members. Through this simple yet meaningful activity, UNS emphasizes the importance of maintaining both physical activity and a balanced diet for its employees. The meals provided are varied and follow balanced nutrition principles, aligning with the university’s vision of a healthy and sustainable campus.
This free meal program reflects UNS’s core values of mutual care and collaboration, which are deeply embedded in its institutional culture. Beyond promoting physical and mental health, the initiative represents UNS’s tangible contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2: Zero Hunger, particularly addressing the indicator “Staff Hunger Interventions.” Through this program, UNS actively supports efforts to ensure food availability, prevent undernutrition, and enhance staff well-being in a sustainable way.

UNS Food is committed to prioritizing the purchase of products from local and sustainable sources. UNS Food collaborates with MSME partners in the Soloraya area. Currently, UNS Food has 28 MSME partners, including caterers, bakeries, and restaurants. One of UNS Food’s goals is to encourage MSME partners to grow and compete in meeting the needs of the UNS academic community.
By building strong partnerships with local MSMEs, UNS Food ensures that the raw materials used in its food supply are sourced from sustainable local farmers and producers. This not only supports the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint generated by long-distance food transportation.
By prioritizing the purchase of local products, UNS Food actively contributes to raising awareness of the importance of supporting local products and educating the campus community about the importance of choosing healthy, nutritious, and sustainable foods.
