Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Governance at UNS
Institutional Approach
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) has established an institutional approach to support equality, diversity, inclusion, and human rights across the university.
UNS does not operate through a single centralized EDI office. Instead, the university implements a multi-unit structure, where several officially recognized centers and task forces are assigned by university leadership to develop policies, implement programs, and conduct training related to EDI.
This approach allows EDI principles to be integrated into academic services, student support, research activities, and community engagement.
Key Units Responsible for EDI Implementation
Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Task Force (Satgas PPKS/Satgas PPK)
This task force was established based on Permendikbudristek No. 30 of 2021. It plays an important role in protecting human rights and promoting a safe campus environment.
Its main responsibilities include:
- Prevention of sexual violence through education and awareness programs
- Handling reported cases and providing victim assistance
- Providing safe reporting mechanisms
- Conducting campaigns on respect, consent, and ethical behavior
This unit reflects UNS’s commitment to human rights protection and gender-based inclusion.

UNS has a strong commitment to disability inclusion through PSD and ULD.
These units:
- Provide academic support and reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities
- Develop institutional guidelines for inclusive education

- Promote awareness of accessibility and inclusion
UNS also developed the UNS Inclusion Metric to assess inclusivity in higher education institutions. This initiative has received recognition from the National Commission on Disability (KND).

This center supports gender equality through:
- Research and policy recommendations
- Educational activities such as seminars and discussions
- Promotion of gender awareness in academic environments

Student Affairs and Well-Being Services
UNS also supports inclusion through student services, including:
- Counseling and mental health support
- Peer support programs
- Equal access to student activities
These services help ensure that all students can participate fully in campus life.
Training and Programs
UNS regularly conducts programs related to EDI, such as:
- Gender equality seminars (including collaboration with national and international partners)
- Sign language training to support inclusive communication
- Awareness programs on violence prevention and respectful behavior
- Collaboration with institutions such as Komnas HAM to promote human rights values
Governance
All units mentioned above operate under the coordination of university leadership at the Vice Rector level. This ensures that EDI-related policies and programs are implemented consistently across the university.
Conclusion
UNS demonstrates its commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and human rights through a structured and collaborative approach. The presence of multiple institutional units with clear roles ensures that EDI principles are implemented in policies, programs, and daily practices across the university.
