UNS Lecturers Created Innovative Helmet (CPAP) with IoT for Covid-19 Patients
The Lecturer Team of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta who is also a researcher from the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS created a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Helmet based on the Internet of Things (IoT) for Covid-19 patients. The innovation of this IoT-Based CPAP Helmet is that it can monitor oxygen levels at the CPAP helmet interface and oxygen saturation that is integrated with IoT. This research was motivated by the high number of Covid-19 sufferers in Indonesia, which then made the situation chaotic because many patients had shortness of breath until they finally scrambled for breathing apparatus. The helmet is used to detect oxygen levels so that everyone who uses it can get treatment faster.
This CPAP helmet has been proven to be able to significantly reduce virus aerosolization, this will certainly be useful for reducing Covid-19 transmission, “explained Ubaidillah, team leader. Assisted by Rizqi Husain Alfathan, Bioma Cakrawala, Muhammad Dzaky Musyaffa, Rani Dwilarasati and Azzahra Fadhlila Aulia Nisa, Ubaidillah added oxygen sensor facilities and oxygen saturation sensors (SpO2) to the CPAP helmet. This CPAP helmet is based on IoT so that the results of sensor measurements can be directly viewed via a smartphone. This tool is reusable with tube replacement and neck adhesive. Ubaidillah and his team hope that the formation of this tool will later be able to help health workers and institutions providing medical equipment in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
