16.2.4 Participatory Bodies For Stakeholder Engagement

Community Engagement through the Board of Trustees (MWA) at UNS

The Board of Trustees (Majelis Wali Amanat, MWA) at Universitas Sebelas Maret serves as the university’s highest policy-making body, responsible for formulating, reviewing, and approving university policies, including oversight of non-academic management. The MWA also fosters networks with external institutions and individuals, including local government and civil society organizations, to ensure the university’s governance is transparent and accountable.

The MWA’s membership includes four representatives from the local community and/or civil society organizations. Their presence ensures that the perspectives and interests of local stakeholders, including local residents and local authorities, are directly taken into account in decision-making processes. This mechanism enables meaningful participation in approving general policies, strategic plans, and overseeing non-academic management. Additionally, the MWA maintains communication with alumni, students, and university staff to integrate input from diverse stakeholders into university decisions.

Through the MWA, UNS provides a clear participatory forum for local stakeholders, both through official membership and consultative mechanisms, ensuring that university decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of the community, local government, and other relevant stakeholders.
