Education for Sustainability: Dedicated Courses at UNS

Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) demonstrates a strong commitment to education for sustainable development through its dedicated programs in Environmental Science at both undergraduate (S1) and postgraduate (S2 and S3) levels. These programs are explicitly designed to address sustainability challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that students gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to contribute to a sustainable future. The curricula encompass a wide range of courses that cover environmental management, ecological systems, climate change, and related social, economic, and legal aspects of sustainability.

At the undergraduate level, the Environmental Science program offers a total of 69 courses, including foundational subjects such as Ilmu Lingkungan Dasar (Basic Environmental Science), Sosiologi Lingkungan (Environmental Sociology), and Statistika Lingkungan (Environmental Statistics). Specialized courses such as Perencanaan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (Sustainable Development Planning), Kajian Perubahan Iklim (Climate Change Studies), and Produksi Bersih (Clean Production) provide in-depth insights into sustainable practices and SDG-related issues. Laboratory and field practicums further enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world environmental challenges.

At the postgraduate level, UNS offers Master’s programs in Environmental Science with 18 targeted courses, such as Perubahan Lingkungan Global dan Kerjasama Internasional (Global Environmental Change and International Cooperation), Manajemen Limbah (Waste Management), and Sistem Informasi Lingkungan (Environmental Information Systems). The doctoral program includes 12 advanced courses, including Manajemen dan Teknologi Pengelolaan Limbah (Waste Management and Technology), Bioremidiasi (Bioremediation), and Sistem dan Pemodelan Pengelolaan Lingkungan (Environmental Management and Modeling Systems), equipping students with specialized skills to address complex sustainability challenges.

Through these dedicated courses across all levels of higher education, UNS ensures that its students are not only aware of global sustainability issues but are also prepared to take concrete actions in alignment with the SDGs. This structured approach exemplifies UNS’s strategic commitment to integrating sustainability and SDG education into its core academic offerings.
