3.3.3 Shared Sports Facilities
- Shared Sports Facilities with the Local Community
In support of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) is committed to sharing its sports facilities with the local community, including local schools and the general public. This commitment is realized through two main accessibility schemes for external users. UNS not only provides free access to some facilities for specific social and educational activities but also offers structured charged access for the general public who wish to use the university’s premium sports facilities. This dual approach ensures that university assets deliver maximum benefit for the health and fitness of the wider community in Surakarta and surrounding areas.
- Limited Free Access to Some Sports Facilities
UNS demonstrates its commitment to community inclusion by providing free access to selected sports facilities for external groups. During the XVII National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in 2024 in Solo, UNS offered its facilities to athletes with disabilities from various regions across Indonesia. The university provided training areas, accommodation spaces, as well as medical and logistical support, enabling athletes to participate actively in a national-level sporting event. This initiative illustrates that UNS shares part of its campus facilities with the public, particularly for groups with special needs, promoting inclusion and equal opportunity.

Additionally, the Faculty of Sports Science (FKOR) at UNS organizes open selection for prospective students of the Special Sports Class (KKO) program for junior and senior high school levels. This program provides students from partner schools in Solo Raya the opportunity to access selected campus sports facilities free of charge, supporting both their athletic and academic development. Such activities show UNS’s role in sharing sports facilities with the local community in a limited but open way, fostering inclusion and equal opportunity.

- Charged Access Sports Facilities
UNS also provides several sports facilities open to the general public outside the campus community through a fee-based access system. This demonstrates UNS’s commitment to sharing sports facilities with the local community.
- FKOR Fitness Center, UNS Manahan
The fitness center managed by the Faculty of Sports Science (FKOR) at UNS Manahan actively shares access with the public through a clearly defined charged access scheme. Membership fees for the general public are set at IDR 300,000 per month for a monthly membership or IDR 20,000 for daily access. The distinct pricing for public users (separate from student or athlete rates) confirms that this fitness center, although university-owned, functions as a shared facility open to the local community with a structured fee.

- UNS Tower Gym (USFIT Wave & Motion)
The gym located in UNS Tower Hotel & MICE, known as USFIT Wave & Motion, is also a university facility open to the public via charged access. Situated on the second floor, it offers monthly membership programs starting at IDR 350,000 for the general public. With operating hours from 05:00 to 21:00 daily, UNS ensures that community members who wish to maintain a healthy lifestyle and use modern standard fitness equipment can register and access the facility through a paid membership system.
- UNS Tower Swimming Pool
As an additional sports facility accessible to the public, the UNS Tower Swimming Pool also implements an affordable charged access system. Local residents can enjoy the pool with a daily entry fee of IDR 25,000. The pool operates daily from 15:00 to 21:00. The availability of publicly promoted paid access demonstrates UNS’s commitment to maximizing the use of campus assets and sharing recreational sports facilities with the wider community outside the academic environment.
Overall, the evidence shows that UNS effectively implements policies to share its sports facilities with the local community through both free access to some facilities and charged access. These initiatives affirm UNS’s role as a higher education institution actively contributing to the improvement of public health and well-being (SDG 3) through shared sports facilities.
