The UNS Museum was initiated by Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S., Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret, for the period from 2015 to 2019, in recognition of the fact that even after 40 years, UNS lacked a physical record of its historical journey. The founding of UNS carries profound significance, as the university helped break the stigma that higher education institutions in Surakarta were based on ethnicity or particular affiliations. The UNS Museum is located on the first floor of the R.Ng Ranggawarsita Building and is managed by the Center of Excellence (PUI) for Javanology at UNS. The museum displays approximately 400 collections highlighting the legacy and milestones of UNS. The UNS Museum is not only intended for the university’s internal academic community but is also open to the general public and students from other institutions. Basic access, such as visits to exhibition halls and general collections, is generally available free of charge or with an admission fee as stipulated. Meanwhile, the use of specific facilities such as the archive room, special collections, or research services typically requires prior registration or special permission. The UNS Museum contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11.2.3 – Public Access to Museums, by providing inclusive and affordable access to cultural heritage. It serves not only as a record of UNS’s history but also as a learning resource that engages the wider community and promotes sustainable cultural development.
