11.4.5 Affordable Housing for Students
Providing Affordable and Inclusive Housing for UNS Students
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) provides affordable and inclusive student dormitories for its students. The university offers well-maintained facilities at reasonable prices, thereby creating a conducive learning environment. Scholarship recipients also have the option to reside off-campus using their scholarship funds. These housing options create an environment where students can focus on their studies without the added burden of living expenses.
Access to decent and safe housing, namely UNS dormitories, provides relatively decent accommodation with basic facilities. This supports SDG Target 11, which aims to provide access to decent and affordable housing.
Social inclusion/equity, such as UKT scholarships, enables students from low-income backgrounds to continue their studies without being hindered by the cost of higher education. Although there is no specific subsidy for housing costs, this helps reduce financial inequality among students.
Planning and utilization of campus assets, such as dormitories located within the campus, helps reduce the need for mobility, energy use, and infrastructure, supporting a more organized and integrated campus city.

UNS is committed to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 by providing affordable housing for students. The UNS Student Dormitory is accessible to all UNS students, including diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs. Located on Jalan Kartika III, Ngoresan, Jebres, Surakarta, the campus dormitory consists of four main buildings (Buildings A, B, C, and D).
- Facilities & Rooms
Several standard facilities are available for residents, including a lounge/lobby, cafeteria, and meeting room. There are two types of bedrooms: Single (for one person) and Sharing (for two people). Each room is furnished with a bed, a study desk, a chair, and a wardrobe.
- Costs
The UNS Student Dormitory offers a range of accommodation options with rental prices starting from IDR 500,000 up to IDR 1,500,000 per month, depending on the room type and available facilities. UNS is committed to continuously evaluating rental fees to ensure affordability for all students (Evaluating affordability) and to provide equal opportunities for decent housing. For students in need, dormitory scholarships are available to help ease the financial burden of rent (Providing financial support). In contrast, the dormitory itself is directly provided by UNS for student use (Providing housing directly).
- UNS Student Dormitory – Branch Campus IV

Campus IV of UNS offers housing facilities to support students who live a distance from campus. The dormitory at Campus IV is affordable and comfortable, designed to meet the accommodation needs of students. The student dormitory is organized into small blocks, with each block consisting of five rooms. Each room accommodates two students and is equipped with basic bedroom furniture, including beds, wardrobes, desks, and chairs. Every block is also equipped with shared bathrooms and kitchens that are clean and conveniently located for daily use. Campus IV is located at Jl. Slamet Riyadi No.449, Pajang, Laweyan District, Surakarta City, Central Java.
- Affordable Boarding Houses for KIPK Scholarship Recipients
Around the UNS campus, there are many boarding houses (kost) that offer affordable prices. KIPK scholarship recipients can use their scholarship funds to rent these affordable accommodations (Providing financial support). A wide range of boarding house options is available, with rental fees varying depending on the facilities provided. Rental contracts are available on both a monthly and yearly basis, with prices ranging from IDR 500,000 to IDR 1,500,000 per month. Students can find the best accommodations in several nearby areas such as Jalan Surya, Gang Kabut, Ngoresan, and Gulon.
