5.3.2 Policy for women applications and entry

UNS Policy Framework for Women’s Applications, Admission, and Participation

Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) addresses women’s access to and participation in higher education through an institutional circular on inclusive and non-discriminatory campuses, supported by its non-discrimination regulation and admission rules. Together, these documents set out how UNS treats gender in admission, graduation, and participation, in line with SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Circular Letter on an Inclusive and Anti-Discrimination Campus

Circular Letter No. 81.4/UN27/HK.06/2024 on an Inclusive and Anti-Discrimination Campus at Universitas Sebelas Maret, signed by the Rector on 1 October 2024, follows up Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2000 on Gender Mainstreaming in National Development and Minister of National Education Regulation No. 84 of 2008 on Guidelines for Gender Mainstreaming in Education. It calls on the whole academic community to ensure that education, research, and community service are “friendly, safe, inclusive, equal, and free from discrimination”. The provisions most relevant to women’s applications and participation are:

  • Admission and graduation (point 1). Consider the principle of equality in admission and graduation for the whole academic community regardless of gender, economic background, disability, region of origin, developing-country origin, or minority identity.
  • Support for under-represented groups (point 2). Provide programs, mentoring, scholarships, and other facilities for members of these groups.
  • Participation and development (points 3, 6, and 7). Develop every member’s potential without gender discrimination, guarantee their rights fairly regardless of gender, and give equal opportunities in career development regardless of gender.
  • Enforcement (points 4 and 5). Prohibit and prevent all forms of discrimination, and take firm action and impose sanctions on anyone proven to discriminate on the basis of gender.
